Christmas is just around the corner and, of course, Befana Drama 1 is a perfect book for the festive season, with its final chapters set in the heart of all that’s snowy, magical and enthralling – Lapland!

Children always like to ask me where I get my ideas from and I suppose taking my son to Lapland when he was aged five is one of those idea sources.  To be fair, I didn’t think I enjoyed it as much as I could have done, as my darling dog had only just died unexpectedly, but I do remember being hotter than I’ve ever been in my life!  Never mind freezing temperatures … when you’ve three or four layers on, including thermals and are stuck in front of Santa’s roaring fire, in his cosy log cabin, all you wish to do is disrobe!

However, this experience does make the final part of Befana Drama 1 very atmospheric, although of course there isn’t really a garish pink, five-storey Casa of Contentments slapped in the middle of Lapland!  I have to say though, my visit to Santa’s post office does influence the description in the book.

All this Christmas magic makes Befana Drama 1 the perfect book for Christmas – even though other parts of the book are set Italy, Dubai, The Black Forest, an American candy factory, a Russian coal mine, Siberia and Iceland!  For that reason, I shall be taking both Befana Drama 1 and Befana Drama 2, plus Caught Napping, to two upcoming Christmas gift fairs thus far – the Ribby Hall Craft & Gift Fair (November 30) and the Wellbeing Farm Christmas Fair and Artisan Market (December 6).  Both events sound fantastic – there’s even a live nativity at the latter!

Now, I won’t be able to sell or divulge anything about the other book featuring Bef (which has been written especially for the Italian market and to a precise brief) or the amazing very British book that I need to progress down another route entirely.  However, I will be able to talk about characters, plot and inspiration and do all the usual Befana Drama Giro-Rama stuff.

Do come along, if you can.  If the mood takes me, I may try to do a few more events pre-Christmas, but my time is much in demand these days and there are only so many hours in a day …
